Artisans -
Made With Passion

Kalpa Taru works in a symbiotic relationship with Indonesia’s talented artisans. Our goal is an excellence that mirrors the great makers of the past but in a modern context. After developing a design, fabrication begins with the careful selection of wood, paying attention to species, grain, color, luster and character. Using hand tools and sophisticated machines, carpenters shape, cut and carve all components with precision. Quality joinery with the use of specialized glues, hardware fixtures and finishes ensure durable furniture to withstand the test of time.

Even the biggest tree grows from a tiny seed. We begin with creative ideas in all forms – emotions, colors, textures and forms. Kalpa Taru is a facilitator in both export and domestic projects. Together with clients we explore and define needs and options. In some cases clients have very clear ideas of what they want, while others are seeking. With extensive experience we can quickly move from the theoretical to three-dimensional renderings and detailed shop drawings that allow you to see what the end product will look like. From here we continue to manufacture either one of a kind or larger production.

Custom Manufacturing

With many years of experience and a deep knowledge of antique, artisanal and contemporary arts, Kalpa Taru has often served as a consultant to private individuals, corporations, museums and hotels. Working with experts including curators and artists in a variety of fields, our services include everything from designing custom artworks, setting up collections, exhibitions, seeking design solutions, conservation, mounting, framing and commissioning art pieces.

Art Consultant

Kalpa Taru is also capable of expertly reproducing a vast array of antique finishes. This knowledge resulted from restoring and adapting antique pieces of furniture and furnishings – architectural elements, statues, and carved panels. Over the years we have identified and continue to work together with an amazing team of sculptors, architects, gilders, weavers and other artisans. So, too, we have studied patinas, patterns of wear, multi-layering and the use of color palettes and exotic materials. We also have access and experience to genuine Indonesian antiques that might be of interest of you both as sources or actual elements in your design.
